1. Purchase and use a Traeger Hydrotuff cover. This will help protect against the weather, dust, scratches to your outside paint.
2. Once every 90 days, use a good quality car wax and wax the the entire outside of your grill. Be sure the grill is TOTALLY COLD before starting this process. Use a clean towel to thoroughly remove all of the car wax from the grill body.
3. If you need to touch-up the paint, see your Authorized Traeger Dealer or go to the Traeger General Store at www.traegerindustries.com and purchase genuine Traeger Touch-Up Paint.

I have a Traeger with a Digital Thermostat unit. What setting do you recommend I have the dial set on when I first start the grill?
If you own a grill outfitted with one of our Digital Thermostat Kits, you should know that we recently changed our recommendation on how you should start your grill. Instead of rotating the dial to the 350 degree temperature setting, we now recommend that the best way to insure proper start-up is to rotate the thermostat dial to the smoke setting and allow the grill to start-up on this setting. Once the grill is going, you can rotate the thermostat to any cooking temperature setting you desire.

Its raining its pouring the old pool still needs care
A quick tip: When it rains over the next few days, open your pool cover to let the pool breath and get some fresh water. It will help dilute any high chemical levels. Rain water is completely distilled.
Don't forget about your pool just because its cold and rainy. Water still needs care, just less.
Visit Johnson Pool and Spa with a water sample and additional tips for maintaining your pool.

The Colder Months are Around the Corner....Don't forget about your Pool!
Attention existing pool and spa owners. Let us know if you need help with closing up your pool or spa for the winter time. We have some good advice on making it easy to keep a clean and clear pool or spa through the winter months.
The biggest mistake pool owners will make is:
Even though there may be no usage, your pool or spa still needs regular care. Majority of the time, the pool is re-opened in the spring time with green water and algae blooms. We can help you prevent this in a way that will save you money and time.

Helpful Tips for Buying a Hot Tub
Helpful Tips For Buying a Hot Tub
Generally speaking, the words “hottub” and “spa” are used interchangeably. When deciding what to buy, you'll want to consider the best value for your budget within the “portable” hot tub or spa category. Portable means a self-contained freestanding unit that can be moved (if circumstances make it necessary or desired) from one location to another.
Factors to consider in your hot tub purchasing process:
Size: Spa size is typically affected by the available space for the hot tub in your desired location, and by the number of people you want your hottub to hold.
Comfort: The comfort of the hot tub's seating is very important. To ensure that your comfort level is met, be sure to sit in the spa before purchasing. It's also highly recommended that you “wet test” the spa; this will give you the best indication of how comfortable it is for you and other intended users. Comfort factors include seating depth and variety, footwell space, lounge fit, access to hottub controls, ease of entry and exit, and cushioned headrests.
Hydrotherapy Performance: This area is highly subjective. Some people want a powerful hydromassage experience while others intend to use their hottub primarily for soaking. If you're looking to maximize your hydromassage experience, consider the types of jets and the jet placement. Don't be fooled by jet count alone. What's more important is jet variety and how the jets are positioned within the seats/lounges throughout the spa. A hottub that maximizes the hydrotherapy experience will address all of the body's major muscle groups. You'll also want to consider jet flow adjustability, the features that allow you to customize the massage by regulating the amount of air and/or water supplied to the jets.
Air Jet System: Many hot tubs feature an air jet system that produces air bubbles from fittings throughout the spa to provide a very gentle soft–tissue massage. While this isn't an essential feature, many people enjoy the sensation it provides.
Reliability: Buying a hot tub that will last over time is an important consideration for most potential spa owners. Look for a spa that is well-built, uses high-quality materials and components, and is backed by a reputable dealer and spa manufacturer. Length of time in business and reputations can tell you a great deal. Finally, ask for a copy of the warranty, and determine if the dealer and hottub manufacturer are willing and prepared to support it.
Ease of Maintenance: Most likely, you're looking for a hot tub that won't require a lot of your time to keep the water clean and clear, and that will preserve its appearance over time.
To maintain good water quality, consider a Corona Discharge (CD) ozone generator. This type of ozone generator will reduce the amount of sanitizer needed, and help keep the water crisp and clean. CD systems last longer than alternative ozone systems. Also, consider the type of filtration system and square footage of filtration. Generally, “premium” spas feature small circulation pumps that continuously filter the water and provide the necessary flow to allow the heater to constantly maintain the set temperature.
When considering preservation of the exterior appearance, look for a spa that features a “simulated” wood exterior. These require much less maintenance time and effort than real wood. You'll also want to check the warranty for the cabinet to ensure that you're covered should it not hold up over time.
Energy Efficiency: Your spa's operating cost will be primarily determined by its ability to retain heat. Ensure that the hottub has effective insulation for the shell and plumbing. Full foam insulation surrounding the shell, combined with a custom-fit spa cover that forms an insulated barrier around the bar top, are essential to keeping heat in and cold out.

Myth Buster - Does chlorine turn your hair green?

No, the reason your blonde hair turns green is not the chlorine in the pool but the copper. Copper minerals at concentrations of 1 to 2 ppm (parts per million) can turn hair green. This can come from your hose water when you fill up a pool, especially those who have well water (so get it checked), it can also come from certain Algaecides containing copper, and it can come from your plumbing or heat exchanger on your heater. (pool heat exchangers are made of copper)
Unbalanced water, althougth may look clear, can lead to copper staining through erosion of your pool heat exchanger or through the copper falling out of solution due to high PH and Alkaline enviorments.
Get your water tested at Johnson Pool and Spa to insure you dont end up with green hair or a green pool!

New Pool Owner Testimonial
Hi Randy and Matt,
Well I just got back from a trip to Ohio and wow, I'm impressed at the progess on the pool!!! It's looking really really good. With the last pool we did, it took about 5 to 6 months to get to this stage. Something your company has done in three!
In fact, I want to call out a couple of items that I was very pleased to see done. Once, I noticed that when digging for the equipment pad, one of the downspout drainage lines was ripped up. I thought to myself, 'Ok remember to connect that back up later'. Then when I got home from my trip, I saw that your guys had already done this for me! I can't tell you how many drainage pipes the other pool company broke at my old house, and instead of fixing them or even calling my attention to them, they just buried them up for me to find the following year when it started raining!!!
Second, your guys also installed a hose bib near the equipment pad which I think is very handy. I'm not sure if this is standard protocol, but it is nice and appreciated.
And lastly, installing a back flow preventer on the fill line was nice to see. That's good practice and one that the other company did not do. I had to come back later and install.
So anyways, so far, I am very happy with your work, A real class act operation.
Thanks!!!

Hot Tub Therapy & Arthritis
Hydrotherapy is aquatic therapy with three basic factors: heat, buoyancy and massage. Immersion in hot water raises your body temperature, which results in increased blood circulation. Buoyancy in the water reduces pressure on the joints and muscles, and creates a sense of relaxation. The massaging spa action of combined water and air jets provides stress relief by relaxing tight muscles and stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers.
According to the Arthritis Foundation, a hot tub's heat and buoyancy create a helpful environment for relieving arthritis pain and stiffness. Water supports the body's weight, which lessens stress on joints and muscles, thus encouraging free movement. Talk with your doctor to determine whether a hot tub is right for you.

Hot Tub Energy Efficiency Saves You Money
Your Caldera® spa is always warm and ready to use, while operating costs are surprisingly affordable. Caldera hot tubs are among the first to meet the stringent Title 20 energy standards established by the California Energy Commission (CEC). Making all Caldera hot tubs even more energy efficient is good for you and for the environment.
The components are engineered to work together, providing the soothing benefits you want from a hot tub while minimizing power consumption.
Many other spas rely on the energy inefficient low speed of a large jet pump for water filtration, heating and/or ozone injection. But the highly efficient EnergyPro® circulation pump operates continually, drawing less than 40 watts. This saves you money in many ways:
It enables the EnergyPro hot tub heater to maintain a constant water temperature. For those who use their spa regularly, this is far more cost-efficient than allowing the water to cool down between uses.
It reduces heater usage, because more than 80% of the energy used by the pump is transferred into the water as “heat.”
On spas equipped with ozone systems, it allows for continuous injection of ozone into the water. Round-the-clock circulation helps the ozone generator provide ongoing protection for hot tub users.
Heat RetentionThe key to low operating costs is effective heat retention. With a Caldera spa, polyurethane foam completely fills the space between the shell, the ground and the cabinet, making it among the best insulated spas you can own.

Fun Grilling Fact
Traeger Grills are the best steak cookers in the world. Just so there is no confusion; Meat sears at 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Charred meat is burnt meat. Pure and simple. Charred meat is unhealthy and contains known carcinogens. For this reason you want to “sear” not “char” your meat. A Traeger grill can obtain a high temperature of 400+ degrees Fahrenheit. This is more than adequate to sear and cook a steak or chop perfectly. If all that a person is after is “char”, they can save themselves a lot of money by purchasing a propane torch to char their meat. With a Traeger Pellet Grill you not only get a great steak cooker but you also get a smoker, a grill, and a barbecue. It's also a wood-fired oven. In short, our products are the most versatile cooking devices known to mankind.

Johnson Pool and Spa has gone GREEN!
If being green in the pool and spa industry sounds strange, than call us crazy. We at Johnson Pool and Spa are doing our part to help the environment by applying GREEN philosophies to all aspects of our business. From recycling all paper and plastics to plumbing pools that are hydraulically sound we are making a difference for future generations. The following are examples of the products and services we provide that are friendly to the environment and can have significant cost savings to you the consumer.
I’ll begin with the construction division of our business. All of the pools and spas we build are plumbed to peak efficiency by our in house team. With proper pipe sizing we can minimize the horse power needed to move the water through the filtration system. This saves electricity and lowers your energy bill. We install automatic covers on many of the pools we build. Automatic covers save up to 70% on operating costs by dramatically reducing heat loss, water evaporation, chemical use and cleaning. Pebble finishes to the interior of the pool will keep it 3-8 degrees warmer than a traditional plaster finish. This saves on heating cost by naturally keeping the pool warmer. Using cartridge filters on all of our pools eliminates backwashing which conserves water. We offer LED lighting which uses less than 50 watts per light compared to the 250 watt halogen light. Solar heating is one of the most environmentally friendly options for a pool. Operating in conjunction with the filtration system and capturing the heat from the sun, solar heating has no environmental impact.
Our service and repair department is equally committed to helping the environment. We recycle all of our cardboard, plastic buckets and metals. We install many of the same energy efficient equipment that we use on our new pools. We use GPS tracking on all of our service trucks to maximize route efficiency, saving gas and overall wear and tear on our vehicles. We adjust the filtering time of our clients’ pools depending on the season to keep run times to a minimum, thus saving electricity for our service customers.
In our retail store we offer many of the most energy efficient products on the market. Caldera Spas has re-engineered their spa lines to comply with the California Energy Commission’s Title 20 rigorous standards. This regulation states that portable spas must operate below a specific level of energy consumption in order to be eligible for sale in the State of California. Watkins, the manufacturer of Caldera Spas is the only company that can make this claim. All Caldera Spas are fully foam insulated to retain heat and minimize the amount of energy needed to keep the spa hot. Many of the spas come equipped with a 24 hr. circulation pump. You may think that uses more energy, but by circulating the water continuously the pump horsepower can be dramatically reduced. Due to what’s called the “cubed factor” of electricity this reduction uses far less energy than filtering less time with larger horsepower. Traeger Handcrafted Wood Pellet Grills are the cleanest burning of any grill on the market today. Traeger Wood Pellet Grills use a natural biomass wood pellet fuel made from 100% recycled hardwood sawdust. The hardwood smoke created by the wood pellets produces antioxidants similar to vitamin E. The grill utilizes an in-direct cooking system that reduces the fat and charring, decreasing cancer causing benzo-a-pyrene on food. The burn system in every Traeger Grill is capable of a combustion efficiency rate of 98.8% with an extremely high fuel to air ratio. This means low emissions and a lower carbon footprint. Most importantly the food cooked on a Traeger is delicious. Many of the other products we sell in our retail are environmentally friendly, from clarifiers like Sea-Klear made of natural Chitin a derivative of crabs to natural enzyme products that remove waterline build up to solar covers that are a biodegradable liquid. At our main offices we go paperless with faxing and invoicing and have most electronic devices on timers.
Helping the environment is a major concern of all of us at Johnson Pool and Spa. If we and other businesses make the effort to change behavior and sell environmentally safe products, we can make a difference.
